Soda Stream Review

First let me start out by saying that I was skeptical.  How can I make my favorite soda (or pop, depending on where you’re from) at home?  Take some filtered water, carbonate it and add some syrup and I’m done?  Seems too good to be true.
Well, when our SodaStream arrived, I was pretty excited to open the box and see how it compared to my favorite drinks.  Set up is very easy, just take the SodaStream out of the box and attach a CO2 cartridge to the back.   Don’t worry, the directions are easy to follow.  After washing the 2 bottles that came with it, just fill one to the water line as indicated.  Each bottle holds 1 liter of water.  Next, screw bottle onto SodaStream until hand tight.  Now it’s time to add the carbonation.  Here is where I went wrong on the first couple of tries.  I was so excited to try it out, I did not read the directions to this step properly.  It says to push the button on top, down firmly and release quickly until you hear a loud buzz.  Well I pushed down firmly and released quickly and never heard a buzz.  I added my syrup, shook the bottle, and poured into my glass.  Flat, flat, flat.  So I dumped it down the sink, rinsed and repeated.  Same result.  I figured with millions of these begin sold it was operator error.  It took a few tries and my wife to read the directions, but I can say we were finally successful.  I finally heard the loud buzz.  Adding the proper amount of syrup was the next step that takes some tweaking.  There are properly marked lines in the caps, but again I rushed the process.  Again it took a few tries, but for my taste, I needed to fill the cap to the very top.
We were given 7 different flavors of soda to try,…………….and 3 flavored waters.

I would have to say that they all are very good and comparable to the real brands.  The energy drink flavor tastes just like Red Bull and the Cola Zero tastes just like Coke Zero.  I am very impressed that I can make my favorite drinks at any time without having to go to the store.  With this unit, it helps me reduce waste by not having to buy bottles and cans.  Also I will save money as each bottle I make equals about $.25 per can.  Another benefit if you enjoy drinking soda as much as I do is the reduced amount of calories.  For the non-diet flavors, there are only 34 calories, 9g carbs, and 9g sugar in an 8 oz glass.  The flavored waters are amazing, it makes your dull water "sparkle."
Soda Stream machines can be ordered online or at a few of your local stores such as Bed, Bath and Beyond, Macy's, Sears and a few more.  You can see what they offer here, and find more locations.  There are so many options, something for everyone!  We would like to thank Soda Steam for letting us try their product, and make us believers. It is sure to last us a long time in this house!
Have a great Monday!  Steve and BJ

Where I'd rather be!

I've grown up in the North, West Virginia was my home for 23 years, I spent a few in Mississippi, which I think is what spoiled me, now in Ohio.  You would think after being in snow all of my life, that I would love it, enjoy it, whatever, but I don't!  I am so sick of the fluffy white stuff I could vomit!  We had a few days last week that teased us and was 65 degrees, it was lovely!  I loved every second of it!  I would much rather spend my time outside playing with my boys, working in the yard or garden, riding bikes or running in the sunshine.  Though my favorite pastime in the summer is just soaking up some Vitamin D!

This morning I woke up to, what other than, SNOW!!!! UGH! It is so pretty the first time if falls for the year, but anything after that, makes me want to throw up!  I can't stand it!

It's only a dusting so far, but it means I have to put my winter coat on.  Bundle myself and the boys up to go and be cold!  I hate, I mean hate, being cold!

I would much rather have on some
Hanging out here
Myrtle Beach
or here
Bahamas

Anywhere warm would be great, and enjoying the outside!
Until that dream can come true, I'll just keep wishing and praying that one day I get to live somewhere that I can where my flip flops year round and soak up the sun a little bit everyday.

Have a Beautiful Friday Friends!

Monster in the Laundry Room

Why is it that it never fails that at least one sock gets eaten by the washer or dryer?  It seems like everytime I do laundry there are three odd ball socks that don't have a match.  It drives me crazy, almost always it's the kids, but once in a blue moon, I'll have one missing.

I seriously don't understand when I take my socks off, put them in the basket myslf, and do the laundry, where in the process they go? The only explaination is the washer/dryer eats it.  I can possibly understnad how one of the boys' gets lost.  The oldest has a couple bad habits already!  One is that he takes his socks off in the living room, here, there and everywhere, and one will make it to the laundry room, while the other is hidden under the couch.  He also has the tendancy to throw his clothes next to the laundry basket instead of in it, and it gets over looked.   Does this happen to you all?

When the kids were babies, I kept an intmates bag in their room so that when I took off their socks they would go in there, and never get lost in the sea of big clothes.  Maybe that should be my answer again.  Give both boys a bag and tell the oldest that socks are to only go in the bag, nowhere else.  It's worth a try.  Until then, I'll continue to blame the washer and dryer monsters!

Happy Humpday friends! ♥ BJ

Running Watch

I wanted to share with you all the love I have with my running watch.  I know that sounds crazy, but it is the coolest thing!  It's not just a watch, it's a personal trainer, GPS Navigator, and Virtual Running partner.

I have the Garmin Forerunner 101 GPS Personal Training Device.  It's a great beginners running watch.  Your first step is to put in your height and weight.  Because it is such a smart device it can track how fast/your pace, how many calories you burn and how far you went.

If you travel, you can mark your location, see your current location and follow a trail back to that location.  It's like leaving a bread crumb path for yourself.  For example, if you go to New York City, you start your watch from your hotel, and the watch will track your path and can lead you right back to your hotel.  I think that is so cool!

The Virtual Partner is like running with someone next to you.  It shows if you are in front of, behind or right with your partner.  It's a great way to run with someone without having a real person next to you.  I like it because I can't talk when I run, I like to listen to my iPod and be in my own little world.  With my virtual partner, they don't bother me.

I love that it tracks the calories I burn.  I always want to know how many calories I burn when I work out, especially when I'm trying to lose weight.  This watch does it for me, then I don't have to try to figure it out.  Since it has your personal information in it, it can calculate it based on your info and the amount you ran, distance, etc.

On the front screen, it shows your time, pace and distance.  It tracks your history with your last run, by day, by week and your totals.  It has a 5,000 lap history.  You can also use the usb cord to put all of the information into your computer and see your runs.

You can also use if for bike riding.  Since it has GPS, all you do it change it to bike riding and it can still track you pace, distance, etc.  I love using this watch!  I've had it since I started running  3 years ago, but it is time for an upgrade!  This is the one I want.
The Garmin Forerunner 405
I like it because it's smaller, has a heart rate monitor, it shares information wirelessly, and it has a foot pod for using inside, since the GPS doesn't work inside.   All in all, they are both amazing watches.  I highly recommend one if you are a runner, want to be a runner or inspire to be a runner or even a walker.  It is an amazing piece of technology!

Have a Lovely Tuesday, and get out there and walk or run, it will make you feel amazing!

In the 200th year of American Liberty…

The year would have been 1976; I was not even born yet. American cars where made in this country, not built somewhere else and sold under an American name plate. I mean come on, the Camaro, an American icon is nothing but an Australian made Holden with Chevrolet skin.
Recently I have had the honor of playing with a Bicentennial Model Ruger 10/22. From the moment I held this gun I felt like I was holding a piece of Americana. Don’t get me wrong, Ruger is still a great American brand. However, due to the economic climate and other companies selling out to the Chinese to make cheap guns, they have had to take measures to keep their pricing competitive.  I have the luxury of working at a great gun shop where I have exposure to many superb guns. I could tell this one was a diamond in the rough.

The 10/22 is the best selling semi-automatic rifle in history. It shoots any ammunition that you can think of, it is simple, rugged and reliable. It is really all that you could ask for in a firearm, and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to shoot because it is chambered in 22LR.
This Bicentennial gun makes me feel pride in America. Every component on this firearm is metal, from the barrel band to the butt plate of this rifle. It was in such bad shape when we got a hold of it, it was sad. It was filthy and shooting it with out first cleaning it was not even an option. Once we got the action out of the walnut stock I felt a great sense of urgency to breathe life back into this handy little rifle. After a thorough cleaning and some TLC it was a thing of beauty.

My brother and I wasted no time heading out to the farm to run some rounds through our newly reborn friend. It ran flawlessly and the grins on our faces were priceless. It brought us back to an easier time where neither of us had the obligations of college or mortgages; it was as if this gun was a time machine that transported us back to our youth, and for a moment all things in the world were right.  We do not have many opportunities to escape like this, but I cherish each of them.

So, in conclusion if you have the time to stroll up to the attic or down to you basement and pull out any vintage things that were proudly made in America I encourage it. It does wonders to your fun-o-meter, and it may even make you feel like a kid again. If you have a Louisville Slugger, Radio Flyer, baseball, or baseball mitt made prior to 1980 think about this, only the Louisville Slugger is still made in America.

We had a small taste of Spring the past few days, and we jumped on the opportunity to spend some quality time outside soaking up the sun!  It was windy, but worth it.  Ah spring, so close, yet so far away!

Music Flashback

I have been in a really good mood this past week.  It is more than most likely the beautiful sunshine and the semi-warm weather.  Being in a good mood, makes me want to dance!  I wanted to share with you all a blast from the past, and my Top 10 or 12 Favorite songs from High School.

Back in the day I loved Rap and Dance music, it has to do with the awesome beat they have, and that's what my friends listened to also.  Anyway, some of these you may of heard of, others maybe not, but they all put me in a dancing state of mind and in a GREAT mood, so hear ya go, a music flashback.

*WARNING*  You may not want to listen to these with your children around, the language may not be appropriate. Remember I listened to them when I was in High School, pre-kids.  I have them on my i-Pod, so I'm the only one that hears them, I only share the ones that don't have cuss words in them with the boys.  The  really bad ones, I didn't put the videos to, at all.

1. Daisy Dukes- 69 Boyz

2. Hypnotize- Big Poppa
3. Thuggish Ruggish Bone- Bone Thugs and Harmony
4. Let me Clear my Throat- DJ Kool

5. Tootsee Roll- 69 Boyz

6. Freek'n You- Jodeci

7.  Pony- Ginuwine

8.  Baby Got Back- Sir Mix Alot

9.  Da Dip- Freak Nasty

10.  Closer- Nine Inch Nails
11.  Danger- Blahzay, Blahzay
12.  Ditty- Paperboy

Every morning when I woke up my Senior year, I listened to Bone, Thugs, and Harmony.  It drove my mom crazy!  I didn't do it to bother her, I did it to pump myself up for the day.  I have always loved music, ever since I can remember.  Growing up I remember my dad would pull my old Fisher Price Record player out and play his old vinyls.  He was a DJ and MC opening for some really cool people like James Brown and Janis Joplin.  He had a wide range of music, so I fell in love with just about every genre.

Music is still a big part of our lives, like I said earlier in the week, we have dinner time dance parties.  We play music while we make dinner and the boys go to town, it the cutest thing.  I need to record it to share, they all crack me up!

I hope you have a wonderful day and an AMAZING weekend!  Maybe this music will remind you of a time that you loved and put you in a great mood too!

Pet Peeves

I am not a negative person.  I don't complain much and brush most everything off my shoulders.  I've learned most things aren't worth getting worked up about, but I do have a few things that get under my skin, and I just can't control myself.

First, I hate being used!  I'm a giver, it's just who I am.  I will do anything for anyone, and I have a really hard time saying no.  I think that's why people take advantage of my kindness.  Once I do something for them, with out getting anything in return, not even a real thank you, they keep coming back for more, and the sucker I am finds it hard to say no because I don't want to disappoint.  Once someone knows what I can do, they use me/my stuff and that's the only time I hear from them.  What do you do about it? I cry instead of just saying no or ignoring them.

Another peeve, is people who act ignorant, like they have no education and could care less.  Don't get me wrong, I don't think anyone should do things to make others happy, you should make yourself happy, but there has to be a line.  When you are out in public and hear people cussing like sailors in front of children, come on, they don't need to hear your two cents. Show some restraint!
I want to smack the ignorant people that drive by you and their kids don't have seat belts on and it's clear because they are crawling around their seats.  If they don't want to wear them, that's one things, but endangering their children.  UGH!
How about the people you can't understand a word out of their mouth because they are using so much slang, and gibberish?  I understand slang is a part of today's language, but act like you have had some English classes.  I know first hand that they teach proper English in school, not slang. But when the parents speak that way, why should the children speak correctly?  Lead by Example!!

I absolutely can't stand people that text while they drive!  There is nothing that important that can't wait until you get where you are going.  If it is that important, CALL THEM! That's what a cell phone is for. I like to text, but it's just an easier way than having to talk to people.  What's next?

Lastly, Fake people!  You know the ones I'm talking about.  The ones that are all nice to your face, but have an ear load to say about you behind your back.  Or really don't like you, but don't have the decency  to let you know why, they just ignore you.  I guess ignoring you is nicer than saying something mean, but it isn't real respectful.  If I don't like you, you know, and you know why, but there aren't many people that I associate myself with that I don't like.  I consider my friends, my family!

Sorry about the earful today, I just really needed to share that, and I feel a whole lot better!  Thanks for listening, and I'm here if you want to let it out too!  What are your pet peeves?

Have a wonderful day! ♥ BJ

A Stay at Home Mom Happy Valentine's Day

Let me start out by saying that a stay at home mom has the toughest job in the world.  It seems like a scene from the movie Groundhog Day, where everyday seems to repeat itself identical to the last.

1.  Wake up
2.  Get kids ready
3.  Feed kids
4.  Listen to them play and scream until lunch
5.  Make lunch
6.  Nap time about 1 pm (hopefully some peace and quiet)
7.  After nap, listen to them play and scream until dinner
8.  Make dinner
9.  Listen to them play and scream until dinner
10.  Eat dinner
11.  Listen to them play and scream until Bath time
12.  Give kids a bath
13.  Put them in bed (reading stories and prayers and also tons of hugs and kisses)
14.  Ahhh finally peace and quiet (hopefully to watch Vampire Diaries in peace)

Oh yeah, did I leave out the other little things that get accomplished like doing the dishes, running errands, laundry, vacuuming etc etc.  It seems as if it never ends.  It is a thankless job with long hours and bad pay.  I am fortunate enough to have a decent job where my wife can stay home with our boys.  She has done an amazing job keeping our house in order and very clean.  Well that is until Thing 1 and Thing 2 wake up and re-destroy the house.
See, never ending cycle.
We have never been big on celebrating Valentine's Day, it's just another day to us, but I just want my wife to know that I appreciate everything she does around the house.  She has done an amazing job raising our boys and I am so proud of how they are turning out.  She supports me in my career and I could not ask for a better wife.  I would give her the moon if I could, but unless Walmart starts selling them for cheap, we'll just have to stare up at the sky together.
Well tonight we'll just stay at home and have a wonderful, quiet dinner with 2 screaming boys.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Thank you for everything Bobbi.

Death by Chocolate-Heaven!

At my cousin's wedding reception, tradition in our family is to have a cookie table.  We have the traditional Italian cookies, and some classics.  Well on this evening, there was a new little chocolate ball that looked too good to resist.  With the first bite I fell in love!  I'm not a big chocolate eater, or desserts for that matter, but when I find something I like, watch out.  I asked her mom what it was, and when she told me, I couldn't believe how easy it was.  So yesterday afternoon I decided it was time to try it and share with you all.  I call it: Death by Chocolate-Heaven, because it is the best chocolate thing I've ever eaten!  In reality, it is called an Oreo Truffle.

What you'll need:
1 package of OREOs
1 8oz Cream Cheese, softened
16 oz's of Semi Sweet Chocolate chips

Crush about 7 cookies into fine crumbs in the food processor; set aside for later

Crush remaining cookies into fine crumbs; place into bowl.  Add cream cheese; mix until well blended.
Roll cookie mixture into balls, about 1 inch in diameter
Put Chocolate in double broiler to melt or microwave
Dip balls in chocolate; place on wax paper-covered baking sheet

 Sprinkle with reserved cookie crumbs
Refrigerate until firm, about 1 hour.  Store leftover truffles, covered in refrigerator and ENJOY

For my Thirsty Thursday Drink, being that they are OREO's, I have to have a nice tall glass of Milk
Not real fancy, but I don't think too much alcohol would taste good with these.

Have a Great Thursday! ♥ BJ

LOVE

Ever see these?  They are the iconic LOVE Sculptures
top: Philadelphia
bottom: NYC

I personally think they are really cool!  While flipping through the Sunday paper, I came across a piece of framed wall art with this LOVE in it.  It cost $9.00, pretty cheap right?  I decided that I could make it cheaper and customize it to the way I wanted it.

I bought a frame 1/2 price at Hobby Lobby
1 piece of 12x12 scrapbook paper with love all over it
and 1 piece of 8 1/2 x11 cardstock, which was also 50% off

I used my Cricut machine to cut the letters LOVE
Cut the cardstock to fit my 8x10 frame
Adhered the letters to the cardstock and.....
My version of the iconic sculpture.
Simple but cute.  You could use it to decorate your house, or give it to your LOVE!

Happy Hump Day! ♥ BJ

Thanks Coffeemate!

I want to thank Coffee-mate for their Free Flavor Friday which they celebrated on Friday the 4th.  I got the opportunity to participate in the program.  I registered and won a Game Night Pack which included Cranium and a Coffee-mate Poker set, it also included free coupons for all of my guests, napkins, cups and samples of Tasters Choice coffee and powerded coffee-mate creamer.
It gave me the opportunity to invite over friends and family, play games, and share my love of Coffee-mate creamer.  I've tried several other creamers, but always go back to my beloved Coffee-mate.  They have so many flavors, and I've never had one that I didn't like.  My favorites are Italian Sweet Cream and Hazelnut.    I have found that these two, also make the yummiest iced coffee.  If you haven't tried Coffee-mate, I would highly recommend it.  Here are a few pictures from our evening.  I also want to thank Jo, Wendy, Joe, Joey, Jenny and Steve for a wonderful night of great laughs.  I haven't laughed that hard in forever, and I really needed it last week. We definately need to do it again!  Have a great day and enjoy some Coffee-mate in your next Cup of Joe! ♥ BJ

I have hilarious video of us playing Cranium, but can't get them to load.  I'll have to work on it some more, it is something worth sharing!

Mirror for your loved one

Today's craft, like all my others is super easy.  It could be made for you little ones, big ones,  and loved ones.  For those of you without children, you could make this for your boyfriends or girlfriends as a constant reminder of your love.  I'm going to use it as one of my "treats" in the boys Treat Bucket.
I did have a little help on this craft.  I have a cricut machine, which is a die cutter for scrapbookers/crafters. I like it, but don't love it.  I hate that it doesn't cut the words I need, it will cut letters, but then you piece them together.  I would love to be able to type in my computer the word I want, with the font I want and get my desired outcome.  But since I can't, I found this lovely lady Jennifer that cuts vinyl.  I told her what I wanted, and 2 days later, my project was complete, beautiful, and exactly what I imagined.  You can find her here.  She is my new lovely sponsor now too!  Yeah!  Thanks so much Jen!  I hope that if you have any vinyl project, and you need someone to cut it, any shape or size, she's your lady! You will be able to get to her from my site, we are still working on that.  Hopefully I will have it working today.

Anyhow, for this project, all you need is:
a mirror, any shape or size
vinyl

It's as simple as coming up with the text you want and laying it on your mirror.  Here is the final project:

I have one for each of my boys so every time they look at themselves in their mirrors they are reminded that They Are Loved.  I hope you enjoy, and give Jen a shout for your vinyl needs!  Thanks again Jen!
Have a great day all! ♥ BJ

Just Super

Super Bowl Sunday is over. The Greenbay Packers are our Super Bowl Champions. Please notice the lack of an exclamation point. It was a great game none the less. My hats off to the Packers; they took advantage of the Steeler’s turnovers to win. It was one of the best Super Bowls I have watched in my life.  It would have been better if Big Ben would have orchestrated the last minute heroics that he is known for, but it didn’t happen.

Enough about the awesomeness of the game itself and turn our attention to the lackluster Super Bowl commercials. Personally I can honestly say I laughed a grand total of 4 times, and out of those 3 were good; watching guys getting kicked in the nads is so over played.
So let’s rule out the Safe Auto commercial, that leaves us with Budweiser, Bridgestone, and VW. The angry cowboy breaking into Elton John’s timeless classic “Tiny Dancer” was so funny I nearly wet myself. The beaver saving the life of the man who spared his was so touching I was almost in tears, then top it off by the beaver throwing props to the man in car.  The idyllic scenery of the woodland setting being broken by a boisterous black beetle with distinctive white racing stripes makes even a hardened Manday man like myself almost want to drive a cute little beetle around the block once or twice.

That was it, really? Super Bowl commercials should be super. Period. Half of us could come up with better stuff. People get paid millions to make us the all singing all dancing slaves of media. I say to all of those except the four mentioned commercials, boo.
If I missed good ones tell me about them so I can hit You Tube and maybe bring some joy into my post Super Bowl sadness.
