Follow me and I'll follow you

Good morning friends!  I have a little something that's been driving me crazy, and since those of you that read my blog I consider friends, you'll understand where I'm coming from. When I first started blogging, and joining hops, I always wrote, (follows back)  I did it for a few weeks, and realized, it really wasn't the smartest thing to do.  I realized that most people were only following me to get my follow back, and the more I thought about it, the dumber it sounded.  I was going to follow back ANYONE that followed me, what if I really didn't enjoy their blog, what they wrote or who they were?  Since I was new, and really had no idea how it worked, it sounded like a good thing to do then, but it really wasn't.

After a few weeks, and following blogs I really didn't enjoy, I stopped writing (follows back)  I decided that if people like what I write, or have to offer, they will come back.  Like in the movie Field of Dreams, if you build it, they will come.  It's sorta like that.  If you write it, they will come.  I'm still learning a lot, but have learned that some posts get more views than others.  They all get viewed, but some days there are a lot of page views, where other days not quite as many.

I have made a few really great friends on here, and have honestly learned quite a few things by talking to other bloggers, and reading a few things @ FTLOB.  This is an amazing blog!  They have a little bit of everything, but that is another post! :)  If you are new to blogging, and need a few pointers, and want to join in hops or gain followers, read this.  The lovely ladies at For the Love of Blogs really have it going on!  What they write really makes sense, and I enjoy and appreciate what they do for all of us bloggers.
Thank you Ashley, Lindsay, and Vic!

With all of this being said.  When I get comments,  I'm following, follow me back, you can bet your as@ , that I'm not going to even look at your blog.  Sorry, I'm just being honest.  It's rude, and leads me to believe you didn't even read what I wrote.  You came to my page, hit the follow button, and left your message.  I'm sorry if this seems rude, but I love my followers that come by and check out my page and leave me messages that I know they read what I wrote.  If you are just looking for followers, you really aren't in this for the long run.  When I follow a blog now, they are blogs that I love, and enjoy going back to.  I may not always leave a comment every time I visit, but I've been there over and over.

I know this might upset some of you, but that's not what I'm out to do, and I'm sorry.  I'm here to make new friends.  Others that have the same things as me in common.  People that love their families, kids, crafts, photography, sports, cooking, cleaning, blogging,  fun, and life in general.  Life is to short  not to have the things in it you LOVE, especially great friends!

Have a great Hump Day my beautiful friends!  I love you all! ♥ BJ

This was a wonderful post. It's so true in those blog hops, you get followers but then you never see them commenting again.

I like your philosphy of following those blogs that you really love and enjoy reading.

Good for you! And if it upsets some people, then too bad, obviously they don't get the spirit of blogging.

I HATE follow me and follow you back's. Blech. I have been visiting a lot of blogs lately, and only follow those that I really enjoy reading. But I have so many people who hop back to my sight and say "thanks for stopping by, I am following you back". First off, I didn't follow you, secondly, I am not going to follow you, and third, you need to be blocked from comments, haha. I am lucky I do have some great followers, and it looks like you do too. All the best!

I understand what you're saying and I don't follow blogs that I don't like. But if I'm a new follower, I usually let the blog author know and invite them to check out my blog. My apologies if you are an author I asked to follow back.

What a sticky subject. I try to follow everyone who follows me, but if their blog just isn't interesting I unsubscribe.

YOUR blog though - I thought I was a GFC follower already as I've been here a few times. When I saw your post on twitter this morning and popped over I wasn't = / Sooo.. I am now! Problem solved! lol

Happy Wednesday!

hey sweet lady! i could not have said it any better and completely agree 100% thank you for speaking your mind on this issue...there are so many out there i am sure feel exactly the same, but worry that saying something might cause issues...i thank you for taking the time to type up this post.

i have learned a lot myself about blogging these last few months...you can't make everybody happy and unfortunately not everyone is respectful.

it's when you find the good ones though that make it worth it :) love you girlie!! your design always makes me smile :) xoxo

Amen sista!
I dont really check out the blogs that write "follows back" on the linkys. I think that yeah, its cool if you have 200 followers but if you have only 2 comments on posts then what is the point? I try and follow the blogs that I really enjoy and comment as much as I am able.

It's funny you wrote that because in my short blogging life, I thought it was all about follow me I'll follow you. Now my blogger reader is full of coupon this and giveaway that, things I'm not even interested in and I had to go and stop following. I would rather be able to visit all the blogs in my reader and enjoy the content vs quality.

I did the same thing. Now I have a bunch of followers and not many readers. I don't write just for myself. I love the interaction with my readers. Thanks for saying what many of us don't have the nerve to. Have a great Wednesday!

I don't follow anybody! Which isn't to say that I don't read other people's blogs and comment like a fiend (I totally do). But I've never been that into following. Which is kind of hypocritical because I get a little bit of a thrill when the number of followers goes up on my own blog. BUT I get more of a thrill when people comment and engage with what I write, and I'd sooo much rather have a place where people feel comfortable commenting and reading my blog than have 300 followers.

I agree with you. I despise comments with 'follow me' or 'add my button' or 'check out this giveaway.' I want genuine people you know? It's totally okay to be honest. No worries.

I so agree with this! I get all giddy and excited when I see comments (I know, I'm pathetic), but it's a bummer when they all say. "Stopped by from **insert blog hop**. Please follow me back!"

Hello mZ lady! *smile* Dropping in on you to see whats up with you. Enjoyed reading this post! Thats just how it is sometimes on blog hops. I dabble in a few at timez but not too much because of THOSE kinds of reasonz.

Sometimez ppl want that popularity but half the time the posts really don't be about much of ANYTHING! I don't mind if I entertain in ma postings or not...many ppl blog for various reasonz. I blog for ma own inner peace. Some blog for reviews/giveawayz, others for followers...whatever the case may be, i just like good honest readz! Happy Thursday! *smile*

Great post! I dislike when someone writes to me only to tell me they are now following me and that I should follow them. Like you, I only want people to follow my blog if they actually follow my blog. Vice versa.

I'm ok with people asking me to check them out, but I would appreciate a comment related to my blog. Surely to goodness these people could take an extra two minutes to read a post or two, comment on it, and then ask me to check them out!

BTW, I am a a new follower. You followed me on Twitter earlier today.

Oh yea, and by the way! I'm going to follow you because you really do have some great reads. (chuckle)

Oh thank you so much for sharing! i found your blog by stupidly typing in a search of 'you follow me, and I'll follow you' looking for some possible followers. within the first few minuets of browsing around i found myself looking at blogs that i did not enjoy. one of the blogs even had to me what was disturbing content on it. an other blogs were okay but didnt really interest me so i didnt follow a single one of them. than thats when i stumbled upon your site with this post an it makes so much sense. i'll no longer be stupidly searching for people to follow me anymore.

thank you once more =D
