A Manday Dilemma

Hello Manday followers! I am faced with a gigantic Manday Dilemma. I love the outdoors and everything that goes with it; even as I am writing this post I am very sad to say that there will be no outdoor Manday adventures today. My love for the outdoors is surpassed only by my allergies; I am allergic to everything in the outdoors and I have been for quite some time. It hasn't been until recently that I have had to actually listen to my Doctors and rest and relax to get rid of my sinus infections and subsequent ear infections.

 

I have been told there is a remedy though. My ear nose and throat Dr. has suggested that we go inside my noggin and roto-root everything out that is blocking my airways in my nose. I have agreed to have surgery for my sinuses, septum, turbinate and have tubes put in my ears. He tells me that after 10 or 12 of the most miserable days in my life I will be right as rain.

 

Anything has to be better than getting monthly sinus infections that do frequently turn into my dreaded ear infections. The Dr. says that since my sinuses do not drain that the fluids move into the passages in my ears and cause the "ice picks in my eardrums" feeling. I think that I can deal with a week or two of miserableness.

 

I am very anxious about the whole procedure, and I am calling out to our readers to tell me their stories, either good or bad about their experiences with this kind of procedure. I would love to know if it helped any of you guys or your loved ones out. I must point out that I do not have pollips inside my passage ways, they are merely obstructed by a deviated septum and overly large turbinates. Thank you for reading.

What's in your Easter Basket

I guess I'm not like most when it come to filling an Easter basket.  I think back to when I was a kid and what I used to get in mine.  I don't remember when I was real little, but I do remember as I got older.  I got cool things like lip gloss, new white sneakers for spring and summer, socks and very little candy.  I don't think that an Easter basket has to be filled with tons of candy.

Every year I try to think of cute little things to fill the baskets with.  Or even try and think outside the basket.  One year I bought a wheeling yard cart for a kid and filled it.  We were out of town and didn't want to have to carry the basket back and forth, so it was perfect,  D. loved it!  It was filled with a shovel, rake, yard gloves and other outside things for him to play with.

This year, now that the E.B. has 2 to fill, we really think about what the boys need and what they would love, without tons of candy.

D. is getting a new bicycle, he has grown so much that he doesn't fit on the old one, his basket will be really small with things like new flip flops, sunglasses and some jelly beans with a few pieces of chocolate.  In this house, it's pointless to put a ton of candy in it, because it won't get eaten.

Baby Diesel on the other hand won't be getting any candy, so I really have to get creative.  He's getting flip flops, sunglasses, a couple shirts, little swimmers and a few more things.  With his birthday not until fall, Easter is always great for getting him things he could use and needs.

I really enjoy playing Easter bunny now.  It is so much fun seeing their little faces when they find their basket.  Another thing the Easter bunny did and continues, is hiding the basket.  I've never had a basket laying on the table when I've come down stairs.  The E.B.  has always and will always hide the basket for the little ones to find.  They could be hidden anywhere, from inside the dryer to tucked behind the couch.  It is always an adventure to see where the bunny hides the basket from year to year.  This year there may even be a treasure map to help the oldest find his treats.  We'll have to see.  I'll be sure to post pictures for you all to see.

If you enjoy this idea, just think outside the box.  There are tons of things that you can fill their baskets with that is actually cheaper than candy.  For example matchbox cars, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, kites, new cups, things that can be played with outside now that the weather is getting nice, anything and everything that your child likes, and you can never go wrong with a new book.

Easter Bunny- Cocktail

For all you lovely folks, the Easter Bunny isn't just for the kids.  Here is an awesome cocktail just for the Adults!

Easter Bunny
1 1/2 oz dark creme de cacao                                                          
1/2 oz vodka
1 tsp chocolate syrup
1 tsp cherry brandy

1.  Pour creme de cacao and vodka into shaker and shake
2.  Strain into glass
3.  Float chocolate syrup and cherry brandy on top
4.  Enjoy!

Paper Mache Egg

To this day I remember all the crafts that my nunny used to make.  Some are more memorable than others because they had more meaning to me.  She was such a crafty lady!  I really don't know how she came up with her crafts, especially without the Internet. haha  She could do everything!
When coming up with Easter crafts to share, there was one that stuck out in my mind.  My only problem was, figuring out how she did it.  She has been gone for 8 years now, and she didn't teach us all her little tricks, which makes creating her things a little more difficult.  I asked my aunt, and my mom to see if they had an idea, and mom thankfully sent me in the right direction.  My nunny made beautiful, I'm guess paper mache eggs.  Since I couldn't ask her for sure, I decided to give it a try.

What you'll need:
1 bottle Sta-flo
2-3 rolls of yarn (color of your choice, pink for girl, blue for boy, pastel, whatever you like)
1 huge balloon
2 bags Easter grass
flour

Step 1-  lay newspaper down ( I didn't do this, and made a huge mess!)
Step 2-  follow directions on bottle of Sta-flo for the paper mache, 1 cup starch to 1/2 cup flour.  I used 4 cups of starch for my yarn
Step 3-  blow up balloon
Step 4- Start by dipping the yarn in the starch mixture and wrap the balloon in all different directions

Step 5-  When it looks really covered, hang it up to dry.
Step 6- When it is dry, pop the balloon.

Step 7-  Cut a hole to place an opening to add your grass

Step 8- Try to clean the flakes off the egg.  I used a wire brush from the inside, it was easier than trying to do it from the outside
Step 9- Add your Easter grass and Enjoy

It makes a cute decoration or it could be used for a unique Easter basket.  It is pretty solid with the amount of starch you use.  My nunnies lasted for as long as I can remember.  One day I'm going to teach the kids how to make them so that they each have one of their own.

Eggs nest treats

 I found this awesome recipe over at  Rice Krispies and thought I would try it.  My family and husbands buddies loved it so much, I decided I would share it with all of you.  It is so cute and Easter/Spring ready.

 Make Rice Krispie treats following directions

Add to muffin tins

 Once they've sat, I added Whopper Easter Eggs

You could add jelly beans or m&m's anything that looks like eggs

 The recipe calls for coconut, but I don't eat coconut, so I left it out

I added a little peep on some of the eggs

Use your imagination and create what you love!

Hanging Easter Eggs

When we moved, we started an Easter tradition of hanging plastic eggs on a tree.  Its not much but you always need to find a way to spend time with the family.  No one is ever to busy enough not to make time for the family. It is very simple to do.  Only a few simple steps and your done.

1.  All you have to do is get some plastic eggs that have a little hole in the top (How many is your choice).

2.  Cut approximately a 6" piece of wire and push through hole.  Make a small bend on the end inside the egg so it does not slide out.  Bend the top piece over kinda like a hook on a Christmas ornament.
Note:  we used to use a piece of string and tie them to the tree, but you have to cut the rope ever year.  Using wire will last forever.

3.  Find a tree.

4.  Start hanging eggs.

Once you are finished, you can step back and enjoy.  The tree we picked was in the front corner of the yard and the bottom branches are at least 6' off the ground.  In the next week when the tree begins to flower, it looks beautiful.
Note:  You can see how high and where little D can reach (only two little branches 4" long stuck out).

This all may take only 15 or 20 minutes to do, but it great to spend time with the family.  We have fun doing it and taking pictures of the boys.  We have pictures of little D in the same backpack I am wearing from 2007 hanging the same eggs on the same tree.  I hope you all enjoy and try to make some traditions of your own with your children or grand-children.

If it happens to be windy the day you decide to do this,  I recommend wearing a hat or your hair could end up like this.............

I think Donald Trump would be jealous!!
